What is physical medicine and rehabilitation? PM&R aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. They focus on maximizing independence and improving daily living.

How is physical medicine and rehab different from physical therapy?

P&MR focus on a patient’s bones, muscles, joints, and central nervous system. Physiatrists obtain their bachelor degree and attend medical school. Physical therapy focuses on an individual’s musculoskeletal conditions by using exercise and stretching treatment plans.
